I went to see Sam Smith at the UIC Pavilion and let me tell you, I have been to countless amounts of concerts and festivals and by far Sam Smith has the best voice live. I mean, hearing him on the radio is nothing compared to how smooth and pure his voice is live. If you see one live performance for the rest of your life- make it be Sam Smith. His set is simple, no crazy special effects, no costume changes. Just a man in a suit singing his heart out, the emotion that comes off him is pulpable- that is the kind of music I love, pure and raw. Sam only stopped in the middle of his sets to tell the crowd fun little anecdotes, saying that The Lonely Hour depicts his worst year of his life, but he's is grateful for that year because it nabbed him 6 Grammy nominations - well deserved in my opinion.
