1. Gay Marriage. The Supreme Court of the United States announced it will begin hearing oral arguments in April on the issue of whether same-sex couples have a Constitutional right to marry. The ruling is expected to be handed down by June and comes as a result of four states (Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee) filing petitions in the matter.
2. ISIS Murders 17. Over the past week, ISIS has reportedly murdered 17 civilians in Syria. The murders are believed to be in response to a series of attacks on the terrorist organization in efforts to eradicate the group.
3. Al-Qaeda behind Paris Attack. The Al-Qaeda branch in Yemen has claimed responsibility for the “Charlie Hedbo Attack,” which killed twelve. Al-Qaeda cites the motive as “revenge for the murder of Mohammed,” after the satirical magazine printed cartoon images mocking the prophet.
4. Kentucky Bonnie & Clyde. Two teenagers are at the center of a massive manhunt originating in Kentucky. Dalton Hayes, 18 and Cheyenne Phillips, 13 are believed to have been involved in a crime spree across the South. The two have stolen at least two vehicles, and are believed to be armed and dangerous. Parents and police continue for the teens to turn themselves but they remain at large.
5. Golden Hollywood. The Golden Globes brought out Hollywood’s finest this past week. The Lifetime Achievement honoree was given to George Clooney. Other notable winners included: Best Drama Motion Picture: Boyhood; Best Actor (Drama: Eddie Redmayne, Musical or Comedy: Michael Keaton); Best Actress (Drama: Julianne Moore, Musical or Comedy: Amy Adams)
