five things that happened this week

Five things you should know that happened this week. 

Week of December 28th.

1. AirAsia flight crashes. All 162 passengers and crew members on board AirAsia flight 8501 from Indonesia to Singapore are presumed dead after the flight crashed over the Java Sea on Sunday. Officials have yet to confirm what caused the crash and are still searching for the plane’s black box. It has been reported that 14 bodies have been recovered as search efforts continue but have been hindered due to poor weather conditions.

2. Former NY Governor dies. Mario Cuomo who served as the governor of New York for three terms from 1983 to 1995 died of heart failure at age 82. His name might sound familiar as his son, Andrew Cuomo is the current governor of New York and his son Chris Cuomo is the host of CNN’s “News Day.

3. Toddler shoots mother dead. Veronica Rutledge was fatally shot by her 2-year old son at a Walmart in Idaho. Rutledge had her legally owned gun inside her handbag when the toddler reached in, found the gun and shot his mother in the head.

4. Oregon will play Ohio State. The first ever College Football Playoff’s began with 4 teams to decide the final game begin this week. Oregon beat Florida State while Ohio State beat Alabama. Thus, Oregon and Ohio State will play in the National Championship on January 12.

5. Georgia police chief shoots wife. Police Chief William McCollom with the Peachtree City Police Department claims to have accidently shot his wife with his service weapon. His wife, Margaret McCollom remains in criticial condition as the Georgia Bureau of Investigations begins its own investigation into the incident.
