Diem Brown

A combination of watching the Golden Globes on Sunday and The Challenge: Battle of the Exes 2,  makes me hink about and remember the woman that is/was Diem Brown.

Diem Brown (June 12, 1980 – November 14, 2014), although I only knew Diem trough my television screen, she was a REAL woman, complicated, feisty, flirtatious, an activist, a Dancing Queen, a fighter, full of life, she's competitor, an advocate and inspiration for others facing similar battles, founding MedGift, a support registry for those suffering from any illness.

As Maggie Gyllenhaal said during her Golden Globes speech, "“When I look around the room at the women who are in here and I think about the performances that I’ve watched this year, what I see actually are women who are sometimes powerful and sometimes not,Sometimes sexy, sometimes not. Sometimes honorable, sometimes not. And what I think is new is the wealth of roles for actual women in television and in film.” That is what we saw in Diem thoughout her 8 years on The Challenge, a woman who was sometimes brave, sometimes terrified, sometimes let her emotions get the best of her, sometimes furious, but always REAL.

Some of my favorite Diem quotes:

"I want people to know that the fight is worth it

“I can hear the shock like 'Oh,' and then I hear [co-star] Derrick [Kosinski] and he’s like, ‘Di, you look good!’ and then I start crying because it feels nice. … Ripping that thing off felt kinda good." -- "Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Duel," 2006

“Ovarian cancer does make you feel a little stripped of your womanhood. It wasn’t about the hair, it was feeling like I was damaged goods. Like, what guy is going to want someone with half an ovary? CT was awesome, like, making me realize there were guys that wanted that. He made me feel like a woman again. … It was real. I thought I was going to marry him." -- “Battle of the Exes," 2012
